Try a state park

It’s a great place to enjoy over 10 miles of trails for hiking and walking. Mountain bikers even have enough room to ride and get a decent workout. Walking and riding not your thing? There’s plenty of water here too! While not really a place to swim, that doesn’t mean you can’t go out on the water. Forgot your fishing pole or canoe? No problem! Rent one from the McHenry Dam concession stand and spend the day out on the water fishing or watching any of the over 200 species of birds in the area.

What if I don’t like nature?
Don’t give up on the outdoors yet! If camping, hiking, biking, and fishing don’t appeal to you, McHenry might still have something you’d like. Perhaps a late-night movie at one of the country’s last surviving drive-in theaters? Golden Age Cinemas shows both new and classic films in old-school style. And what’s a drive-in movie without a concession stand! Something you can’t concede for! Luckily, Golden Age Cinemas has an expansive concession stand that offers candy, drinks, glow bracelets, and even pizza. And that signature popcorn of course!
